Cashmere, Washington
An architectural retreat carved into the hillside — designed for quiet, connection, and sweeping canyon views.
THE VISION
Tucked into a secluded canyon just outside of Cashmere, Washington, this home was designed as both a guest retreat and a personal getaway for the owners. Years earlier, they had converted an old barn on the same site into their main residence. Now, they wanted something more intentional: smaller, simpler, and serene.
The goal? To create a grounded, unobtrusive haven with a front-row seat to the beauty of the canyon. A place to exhale, recharge, and welcome guests — without ever losing the view.
THE APPROACH
David designed the structure to sit low into the hillside, minimizing its visual impact from below and keeping the focus on the landscape. Large glass doors in both suites and the shared kitchen open fully to frame the canyon views and connect the interior to the outdoors.
Guests enter from the rear through one of two suite doors beneath a deliberately low roof — a subtle, unassuming entry that keeps the focus off the building and on what’s to come. At first, only a glimpse of the canyon can be seen. But as you descend into the main living area, the ceilings lift, the floors drop, and the full panorama opens — creating a quiet sense of drama as the home unfolds toward the view. A central kitchen and dining space separates the two private suites, each filled with natural light and offering generous room to spread out.
