I grew up around the jobsite. Building is in my blood. My dad was a well-known contractor in the Pacific Northwest — thoughtful, soft-spoken, and quietly excellent at what he did. He passed along a deep respect for craftsmanship, a love of good design, and the belief that homes should enhance the lives of the people who live in them. My uncle designed and built several beautiful homes, and my brother owns a high-end residential construction company. Today, my brother and I often collaborate as builder and architect.
In the Beginning
Through high school and college, most of my work experience was in construction. After earning my degree from the University of Washington’s School of Architecture, I put both pencil and hammer to work, designing homes I also helped build as a framing and finish carpenter. That experience shaped the way I think. I don’t just design spaces; I understand how they get built — and I believe the best architecture comes from that kind of hands-on knowledge.
Honing Skills
For over 16 years, I worked at one of the top architecture firms in the Pacific Northwest, leading the design of dozens of custom homes, from concept to completion. Those projects sharpened my skills, challenged my thinking, and taught me how to navigate complexity, from adapting designs to real-world conditions, to balancing luxury finishes with practical constraints.
A New Venture
In 2023, I founded DLK Design to bring my own aesthetic and design ethos to life: Pacific Northwest–inspired homes that are thoughtful, timeless, and a true reflection of the people who live in them. I also saw an opportunity to offer better value through a more streamlined, hands-on process — one that cuts through the inefficiencies often found in larger firms. My focus is simple: thoughtful, enduring homes that feel like they belong — to both the people and the place.
