How to prepare for your first packaging print run

Avoid costly reprints with these checks before you send files to the printer.

How to prepare for your first packaging print run

Ask your printer for a dieline

Every package shape has a template. Design on the printer's dieline, not a guess.

Use CMYK and check Pantone colors

Screens show RGB. Printers use CMYK or spot colors. Ask for a printed proof for brand colors.

Mind the bleed and safe zones

Extend backgrounds 1/8 inch past the trim and keep text well inside the edges.

Order a small test batch

A short run reveals problems with fit, finish and color before you order thousands.
